I see a positive development in our build-up play and 'phase formations' (how the team is structured in certain parts of the play). I think Jose is concerned with the ability of our full-backs to get up the pitch to support the play. Against San Jose I saw some interesting duty sharing between Pereira and Herrera: we were playing with a 4 at the back, but they both shared the duty of dropping into the defence to collect the ball and build the play (I have been hoping to see Jose deploy Matic in this way: plays in a midfield 3 and drops into back three when we're building from deep). This allowed our full-backs to occupy a more advanced position as we built up, and the structure looks so much better. And against Milan we by-passed the interchanging to arrive at this structure right away by playing with 3 at the back, with the full-backs playing as proper wing-backs.
Hopefully this is going to help us to push up a little at times, and also to to maybe create extra space and opportunity for the likes of Pogba/Fred to find better spaces to work in and impact games centrally.
